TICATEC- Training in Contemporary Application of Traditional European Crafts

TICATEC- Training in Contemporary Application of Traditional European Crafts – aims at adding value to traditional crafts that are at risk of being lost.

In Romania we focus on making traditional Moldavian masks and on painting icons on glass. Uk students learn the secrets of making masks and painting icons with craftworkers Ioana and Ana Negoiţă.

The 4 – week course is held in Sibiu and it ends with an exhibition where participants show what they learnt.

The project is supported by the Leonardo da Vinci programme.

2011 -  “Satul verde” organisation hosted 6 art students from Dumfries and Galloway College, Reid Kerr College and Lancaster University.

2010 – Six decorative art students from Manchester Metropolitan University and University Of Cumbria UK undertook the mask- making and icon painting training.

I was one of the students! We all had a brilliant time in the lovely city of Sibiu in Romania. It was good fun and we learned a lot about Romania and how to make the masks etc. It was a great opportunity to visit a different country. Painting on glass was a great technique to learn. I can thoroughly recommend the course to any one interested in art and craft. The teachers and administrator were all lovely!

I had the amazing opportunity to participate, along with 5 other students, in the TICATEC Programme in the beautiful Romanian city of Sibiu.

I was able to learn a variety of European Crafts which will inspire me with future art projects. I particularly enjoyed the Icon painting on glass.

All the people we met in Romania were very kind and generous to us and the programme was so well organised.

Hopefully some time in the future I will have the chance to visit this lovely country again and meet up with the people we worked with.

I hope that this programme continues with it’s success so that other students can benefit from this fantastic experience.

    Many thanks again to everyone.
